Since version 0.3+ it seems you can commit and push *. This file should be located in the project's root folder and not inside the project's module folder. Since Android Studio 2.2 and up to 3.0, new projects are created with this gitignore file: *.imlĭeprecated - for older project format, add this section to your gitignore file: #.idea/workspace.xml - remove # and delete. # Local configuration file (sdk path, etc) So, here's our gitignore file: #built application files My suggestion would be to bring back the app drop-down menu, and remove the package: filter to avoid confusion.A late answer but this alternative answer was not right for us. Doing the same with the new logcat would cause me to also delete the package:mine filter.Īll in all, I'm not sure what problem the new filter textbox is trying to solve. With the old logcat, after I was done using the filter I would either press Ctrl-A and then Delete, or I would click the clear button on the textbox in order to get back to all the app's logs.I guess you could save in your filters the package names you're interested in, but that takes more effort than it should. Previously, you used to be able to change the selected app with 2 clicks. However, if you want to check the logs for a flavor that uses a different application ID, then you have to either a) switch to the flavor you're interested (which causes a Gradle sync that can take time), or b) filter by package. This works great if all of your flavors use the same application ID. The package:mine filter pulls the package name from the current flavor's application ID.Here are some of the issues I have with it: The new filter textbox makes me feel less productive, and is the main reason I always select "Slightly Dissatisfied" every time Android Studio asks me what I think of the new logcat. I much prefer the previous approach where you had the ability to individually select which (debuggable) app's logs you wanted to see, what you wanted to filter with, and whether or not you actually wanted to only include logs by the selected app. I hate to say this, because I'm sure Google spent a lot of time working on it, but I'm not a huge fan of the new "omni-filter" textbox. ( issue 229642755) This makes Googling for exceptions slower. No Copy/Search with Google context menu options.Unfortunately, the "Restart Logging" button isn't available in the new logcat. ![]() One way to fix this is to temporarily view the logs for a different device (if you have more than one device connected), or kill adb. ![]() Logging occasionally stops working ( issue 229837322).The new Compact View can probably help with this, but I still need to set it up to my liking.I would like to be able to change it from the logcat window itself (maybe have columns that you can drag to resize them, but I realize that this can be difficult to implement on a textbox) My only minor complaint here is that it's a bit cumbersome to change the width of the tag/package name columns. The new formatter makes the logs look very clean. Each tag has its own unique color which makes it easy to differentiate between all the different tags. You can read about it in the changelog: Īfter using it for a while, I'd like to share my thoughts on it, and I invite you to do the same.
